Even though this mother's baby can't communicate with words, phrases, or sentences yet, he communicates with body language and facial expressions. Sure, babies can smile at Cocomelon on the television screen because colorful dancing fruit is pretty entertaining. However, a playful baby intentionally bonding with their mother is no small feat—especially after a year filled with the common and rare trials and tribulations of parenting.
As the mother said, something clicked. There's a sort of “Aha!” moment that happens when you realize the small being that you carried for nine months is now becoming their own person with real feelings and derive pleasure from engaging with you. I'm not a mother yet, but I have a few nieces and a nephew. When I met each of them for the first time, they looked at me as if they saw a ghost. I don't blame them—I'm not Mom! However, as they started coming into their own, they began engaging with me more and their tiny hands would grab my finger to show me what cool new toy they received that week.
The best moments are truly the little things that in reality, aren't so little at all. Moms in the comments afgree that while motherhood can be very tolling in the first year, each mom realizes that they wouldn't trade this type of love for the world.

‘I finally realized it’s all worth it’: New mother shares heartwarming first moment of her baby showing genuine affection after a rough first year of parenting
New motherhood is like diving headfirst into the deep end of a community pool. You have no idea what's in the water, if you can touch the ground, and what else might be beneath the surface. That's the beauty of parenting, though.
Every mom's experience is so similar yet so different from one another because their little kiddos are one in a million. Just because one baby sleeps peacefully through the night doesn't mean that someone else's baby will catch the same amount of shuteye! To say that parenting and mom-ing is easy would be a lie—but the mother who posted this story realizes the hardship she went through with her child proved to be worth it.
It just so happens that the most stressful part of new motherhood happens at the same time as the post-partum stage. Some say the terrible twos are the real test of parental patience, but in their first year of life, babies need assistance with everything and can communicate nothing. Add that to the possibility of sicknesses a baby can develop in their first year and you have a long list of to-dos on your hands! Even still, motherhood is one of the most rewarding experiences anyone can have—especially once your baby truly sees you for the first time and realizes everything will be alright if Mama's there to protect them.
